About Glen Oaks United Methodist Church

Glen Oaks United Methodist Church has served the Dallas community since 1956. Founded with 31 charter members meeting in a red barn donated by local land developer Clayton Wyman, the church began with Sunday school classes in nearby homes and in the saddle room of the barn. The Wyman family's home served as the first nursery.

On June 24, 1956, Rev. William Hodges led the first worship service, and by October, over 100 members had joined. The church was officially chartered that year. Groundbreaking began in November 1957 for our first building, and through the years, our campus grew to include a parlor, kitchen, classrooms, and offices to meet the needs of a thriving congregation. We added stained glass windows, pew Bibles, and hymnals thanks to generous members.

The church thrived through the 1960s and 1970s with vibrant music, youth, and Sunday school programs. While the 1980s brought challenges due to shifting city dynamics, Glen Oaks UMC remained committed to serving our community. We adapted by leasing space to the Academy of Dallas in the 1990s and continued offering impactful ministry.

We’ve been led by 22 pastors over the years, including Rev. Victor McCullough, our first Black pastor, and Rev. Mairlyn Bozell, our first female pastor. Today, Rev. Annelda Crawford serves as our proud and faithful leader.
