Mission Statement for Glen Oaks UMC

Glen Oaks United Methodist Church has a rich history of serving the Dallas community as a vibrant, faith-filled congregation.  As a community of Christian believers, our mission is to reach out to our local community by providing ministries, programs, and services that meet the spiritual, emotional, and practical needs of our neighbors. This includes worship, education, outreach, and events designed to foster connection, faith development, and meaningful support for all.

Our Core Beliefs

At Glen Oaks United Methodist Church, we affirm the foundational beliefs of the United Methodist Church, as outlined in the Articles of Religion and the Confession of Faith. These documents provide the doctrinal framework that guides our faith and practice.

The Trinity: We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This understanding reflects our commitment to the doctrine of the Trinity.

Jesus Christ: We affirm the divinity and humanity of Jesus Christ, who lived, died, and was resurrected for the salvation of humanity. His life and teachings are central to our faith.

The Holy Spirit: We believe in the Holy Spirit, who empowers believers for Christian living and service. The Spirit guides us in our spiritual journey and equips us for ministry.

The Bible: We uphold the Bible as the primary authority for our faith and practice, interpreting it through the lens of tradition, reason, and experience.

Salvation: We believe that salvation is a gift from God, received through faith in Jesus Christ. It is by grace that we are justified and regenerated, enabling us to live in relationship with God.

The Church: We recognize the Church as the body of Christ, called to make disciples and transform the world through worship, service, and witness.

The Sacraments: We practice two sacraments—Baptism and Holy Communion—as means of grace instituted by Christ. These sacraments nurture our faith and connect us to the broader Christian community.

These beliefs are not just doctrines but are lived out in our commitment to love God, love our neighbors, and serve the world. They shape our mission and guide our actions as we seek to embody the teachings of Jesus Christ in our community and beyond.
